Hi Kayce,

Thanks for reading the blog and your kind words. It seems one of the big lessons we are learning right now is that the economy is all about trust. As you point out, if businesses do things to undermine that trust, the possibility for doing more business in the future declines significantly. Conversely, the more open and trustworthy we are, the more business we should attract and the more vibrant our economy becomes. Here's to that brand of success for both our businesses.

Cheers,

Matt

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. It's nice to know that there is someone out there that understands. We are a jewelry store and we don't offer discounts, we don't have sales, we don't pad prices and then mark down, and we don't work on commission. But we still have to deal with the deep ingrained mentality that if you don't ask for a discount you are paying to much. Doesn't it seem to you then, after you left that store that everything there is overpriced? It makes my skin crawl. Thanks for recognising that the various practices of "trick the customer" will only sustain a business that has unlimited new customers. Many of my friends don't shop at the same car dealership twice. Many of them also change phone companies every 1-2 years for the best price on a new phone. Customer loyalty is often earned not by discounting, bait and switch, and loss leader tactics but by establishing a relationship and eductating the customer on "real value." Good luck with your company, you have a good foundation of ethics it seems. By the way, I stumbled across your blog via a mention in the Cape Cod Times, just so you know.

I am so glad to see Usability described so clearly. Creating technology, products and services that are usable should be the most important goal, since after all, aren't the machines here to serve us people and not the othe way around.

You can join the growing body of people who take this seriously by getting involved in World Usability Day, held in more then 40 countries around the world on the second Thursday of November.

The next World Usability Day willb be held on November 13, 2008. We are in the process of redesigning our website, but you can visit us and sign our charter now to show your support.

Given the wonderful picture of the world, and the great description of Usability, I thought World Usability Day should be linked to this blog.
